Delhi hides big and small treasures scattered all over its wide area, to go hunting for them is exciting and, most of all, helps to understand the city’s Soul through its troubled past.

Mehrauli Village, now incorporated into the city net, developed around Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki’s shrine (Dargah). Qutb Sahib died in 1232 and was one of the most important Sufi Saints.

Mehrauli happens to be most probably also the first settlement, in the Region, which never lost a continuity in its existance, despite the center of the power kept shifting at every change of the ruling dinasty.

Therefore Mehrauli offers evidences of the Rajput dinasty, the Sultanate end even the Mughals who here, when their Empire was already following the “sunset boulevard”, built their Summer Palace closed to Qutb Sahib’s Dargah. Surprisingly we can also find traces of the colonial period, thanks to the, in my opinion, perverse initiative of Sir Thomas Metcalfe.

We will walk through Mehrauli Archeological Park, just behind the Qutub Minar Complex, here we will have the chance to go through different periods of time while bumping into different monuments. From the Archeological Park we’ll reach the village’s bazaar and walk to reach other interesting monuments scattered around.

Before leaving Mehrauli village, to reach Adam’s Khan Tomb, I would like to take you to visit the Dargah.
